1. Someone once dared me to follow my bliss (my yoga instructor, naturally). I took a deep breath and said yes to a relationship with a charmer of a man who lives 3000 miles away. One year later, I’m still blissed out.
2. The story that moved me the most: Thirty years after the genocidal regime of Pol Pot, the Cambodian government is trying, desperately trying, to bring war criminals to justice. In Phnom Penh, four elderly men and one woman are being held for their roles in masterminding the murders of up to 2 million men, women, children, even babies, as the world looked on and did nothing. Last year in Cambodia I went to the tribunal, spoke to Khmer Rouge survivors; saw bits of clothing lining the mass graves, and the stacks of skulls at war memorials. The American media does not cover this story. I guess we are too busy reporting on Britney Spears.
3. After all the stories I’ve covered, I think the most important change the world needs is a sense of global community. Children in Laos, today, sit on dirt floors under leaky roofs, without pencils, papers or books in their schools. Teenaged rape victims in Somalia are stoned to death. One and a half million Congolese live in squalid refugee camps. It is the first world’s moral imperative to act.
4. The best decision I ever made was having my kids young, in my 20’s. There were a million reasons not to: career not yet off the ground, no money, rocky marriage. But now, I can snowboard with my teenagers, race them around Central Park, and send them off to college while I’m still young. By having them early, I get to giggle through more of my life with them. Who wouldn’t want more of a good thing?
5. Wish I had more time to travel. Still on the short list: Namibia, New Zealand, and China.
6. This week my guilty pleasure has been Facebook Scrabble. I can stop any time. I swear I can. Oh wait; it’s my turn in a game against a 90-year-old woman in India who is destroying me.
7. I’ll always fight for the underdog. Children, women, LGBT folks, people of color. The rich and powerful have plenty of people on their side. They don’t need me. Besides, they’re just not very interesting.

1. Lost on an island—five things I’d want (not need): 1-Pictures of my kids, 2-MacBook Pro w/Adobe Photoshop, 3-iPod w/ Journey's Greatest Hits, 4-DVD of Weird Science and 5-tape recorder
2. The best gift I have ever received was early in my career, my wife wrote The Late Show with David Letterman everyday for a month before my birthday telling him what a big fan I was. He personally sent a letter back along with an autographed picture and two tickets to see the show. I wasn't making a lot of money at the time and it meant the world to me.
3. Worst date included walking around a mall with an Amazon woman who wouldn't speak to me. I finally quit caring and did what ever I could to make her laugh by ignoring her. It worked. There was a churro involved too.
4. My advice for achieving happiness: No lie - when my daughter was 5 years old, I asked her "What do you want to be when you grow up?" She didn't wait but a second to answer "Happy." I started living my life around that.
5. This week my guilty pleasure has been the TV Show "Cheaters."
6. When I was 14 Billy Idol was the king of rock.
7. My favorite thing in my closet at the moment is my Ed Hardy tennis shoes.

1. The designers that intrigue me: Azzedine Alaia has been a big influence on me because he knew how to value the real shape of a woman. Jean Paul Gaultier for his amazing silhouettes and prints. John Galliano for his fearless showmanship and architectural approach in his design.
2. My muse /or the person I design for is an ageless modern woman with a positive attitude and high level of confidence. She’s smart and not afraid to be noticed.
3. I’ve been inspired by everything around me. Youthfulness is very inspirational to me. I love freshness and newness and like to see how the young interpret style. Music and Hollywood also bring great inspiration to me.
4. In my own closet I gravitate towards my most versatile pieces because I never know what type of activity I will be doing that day. I love a comfortable stretchy bottom and sexy top which later I can add some accessories to and a leather jacket and be set for the evening.
5. The best person I’ve dressed is my daughter on the day of her wedding. No celebrity could ever beat that!
6. I learned most from my mistakes. Fortunately for me, I make a lot of them, so I’m very smart.
7. My biggest fashion faux pas was a snow hat I designed that I swore everyone needed to have. It looked like something out of a cat in the hat or like a wind sock…so scary. On top of it they were multi colored stripes and I made them in two different lengths! Our warehouse was full of them and never sold one piece. I ended up giving them away as gifts, which was equally as embarrassing.
