There’s always a fine line between décorative accessories and knick knacks. Some pieces help create the character of a room while some, especially when there are too many, just clutter the space. It’s hard to claim you have good design genes when you pair up your souvenir from Ft. Lauderdale with art work you still own since you were eight.
I’m over the boring and bland rooms with perfect matching sheets to wall paint, yet I don’t want to come across scattered in my choices. I want some unusual, fun pieces that are conversation starters or just add a little ooh and aah. So with a guest room that is still evolving I’m willing to take a few chances with items that are cool and questionable. Here are a few that I’m pondering:

Artesia Sculptural Hand
JC Penney us upping the ante on affordable home décor with cool new pieces in the Artesia collection.
I figure with each new guest I’d have a different photo held in this graceful stylized hand sculpture.

Crab Pillow in Aqua by Thomas Paul

So I’m a summer baby born in July and while I’m not moody this crab pillow is a bold bright design.

Baby Carthage Pierced Covered Lantern

Simple, yet set two next to each other and you can create a romantic light in the room.

Through The Trees Wall Mirror
Even your guest wants last looks.

Utopia Sun
Reminds me of our weekends in Palm Springs and these ceramic suns adorn the walls in The Parker hotel restaurant.

Erich Ginder Ghost Antler Coat Rack
I found these as a second choice when I couldn’t get my hands on the Neno antlers socket.  Hung just inside the doorway of the guest room this could be the place your guest hangs their bag, jacket or even towel if there’s no hook in the bathroom.

ANIMAL INDEX by Hiroshi Sasagawa
Have them sticking out at various spots on your bookshelf.

DOMESTIC WALL VINYLS - DOMESTIC HORSE by Ana Mir+Emili Padros

I zeroed in on this immediately when I saw it. It’ s such a strong statement that everything else it the room needs to be simple, but if you’re not afraid of stable jokes I’d go for it.

Wallter Starburst wall applications
So if I didn’t get a mirror, I’d apply this the wall and add small round mirror in the center.
