Flip Flops or Sandals - Skip the In-Between
I was headed to my trainer the other day and I watched a woman crossing the street wearing white platform flip flops. They were thick, ugly and simply unattractive. I pondered the reasoning behind this design. Sure she wanted the comfort and obvious casual vibe of a flip flop, but she obviously thought, “Hey, let me get some height with that, too.” What an awful, cheap-looking choice. Of course, it’s my opinion that it was a bad choice, but I’ve worked in the fashion industry for many years and it doesn’t take a former magazine fashion director like me to know that there are much better options out there. Why can’t you keep your flip flops and need for height separate, like church and state. Oh, that’s right, there seems to be no separation between those either these days…. Silly designers, please stop making these!
UGH! Please No! Just go away.
Instead, when standing at your closet, choose Haviana’s or even Old Navy for the day, or if you want height go with a stylish and still comfortable summer options like these. And, oh yeah, skip the bright white.
You want height? You want a comfortable, beachy vibe? You can get both without choosing the cheap, far from fashionable platform flip flop. You may claim you’re not into fashion so it doesn’t matter, but I’d surmise you’re either lazy or you’re lying. Either way you’d look far better pulling on one of these instead.
Wedges from Toms.com, $69
Clarks Shutter Shade from Zappos.com, $68 (The brand focuses on comfort)
Vidorreta Dove from Zappos.com, $135
Corso Como Eartha from Zappos.com, $109

Bandeau for a Maxi Dress
Ask Alison:
I need help finding a white bandeau to wear with a new maxi dress this summer.
-Laura (New York City)
Answer:
Laura,
So simple. If you feel your maxi is too low cut and you need a little coverage and perhaps some oomph of support try these simple, but still pretty bandeau tops. And you’ll avoid the uni-boob effect.
Thanks, Alison
